what´s on now?

February 2004
Pöntinen has cancelled a chamber tour in Finland due to an unfortunate fall on the slippery, icy streets of Gamla Stan,Stockholm.A sprained wrist and some scratches but fortunately no bones broken.Pöntinen has to refrain from playing with his right hand for a while (perhaps this is the time to learn the Blumenfeld left hand Etude or give a high-polish to Ravel’s left hand concerto...).

Hopefully his right hand will be fully recovered on February 11 when Pöntinen is playing at Kulturhuset within a series called "The Critics Choice". Four music critics has been invited to design their own concert and to choose performers. The musicmaking is intended to be followed by discussions between public, critics and the performers. The audience and other critics has then an opportunity to ”review ”the reviewer and the choice of each critic.

For the concert on February 11, The music critic of Dagens Nyheter, Thomas Anderberg, has put together an intriguing programme featuring music by Bartók, Ravel, Reich, Xenakis, Scriabin, Roslavets, Langgaard, and Ligeti. Pöntinen will play Les Vallée des cloches from Ravel’s Miroirs, a selection from Rued Langgaard’s Insectarium composed in 1917, Scriabin’s Vers la flamme Op.72 and Bartók’s famous Sonata for two pianos and percussion together with pianist Fredrik Ullén and percussionists Mika Takehara and Niklas Brommare.
